SEFA ÇAKIR

Sefa-Çakır-1_edited.jpg

Sefa Çakır was born in 1990 in Safranbolu. He completed his undergraduate studies in the Painting–Sculpture Teaching Department at Marmara University, Faculty of Fine Arts, and later earned his master’s degree in the Plastic Arts Department at Yeditepe University. He continued his education in the field of plastic arts up to the doctoral level, further developing his academic direction through his doctoral research. He also works as a lecturer, actively engaging in the fields of painting and art education.

The artist’s compositions conceived independently of a defined sense of time and space invite the viewer to focus on the expression and formal character of the figure. His portraits differ from conventional, classical portrait and figure drawing; their fragmented expressions exist in a balanced space between realism, expressionism, and abstraction.

The skins of the figures and the depicted objects are never smooth or flawless (alive present). All fragmentation and splattering are highly rationalized and guided by emotional direction, becoming calculated forms and color tones. This spontaneity ultimately emphasizes that everything is an illusion, prompting the viewer to question whether the image is a print or created by hand.

The artist continues with a style he has developed over many years “an interpretation that advances from micro fragments toward macro clarity.” Throughout this process, he begins by sketching using traditional drawing logic, then categorizes the work internally through contour, and finally creates tonal values on cotton papers with marker pens, improvising in harmony with the image’s (ad-image) emotional presence.
